FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does SAMA teach?
SAMA specialises in teaching NON-CONTACT karate before and after school, to children in over 400 schools. The lessons start with a register and warm-up, followed by a set syllabus for each colour belt. We have a mid lesson break, continue the second half of the lesson and finish with karate games at the end. We teach self defence moves, kata patterns and discipline.
How much does it cost?
Classes are PAY AS YOU GO - £5 for children and £6 for adutls (16+). You DO NOT have to pay if you or your children do not attend the class - you only pay when you train, however we do not operate a payment in arrears system. There are NO CONTRACTS OR DIRECT DEBITS.
What qualifications do the instructors have?
All SAMA instructors are fully qualified and are first aid trained. They follow a F.E.K.O endorsed child protection policy - and all instructors hold an enhanced DBS, which is the highest check available for working with children.
SAMA is fully recognised and is a full member of F.E.K.O (Federation of English Karate Organisations), F.I.K.O (Federation of International Karate Organisations) and F.M.A (Federation of Martial Arts Association).
SAMA is fully insured - with £10,000,000 Public Liability, £2,000,000 Instructor Indemnity and individual member insurance.
What age do you take children from?
We teach children from 4 years of age and above.
Am I able to stay and watch?
Of course you can! For the after school classes, most parents pick their children up at the end of the class, however, for the evening classes many parents stay and watch the lesson.
How do students progress?
Local gradings are held very regularly - every 2 months - at Admiral Lord Nelson School. Students are able to grade every 2 months to start with, and as the syllabus becomes progressively harder, gradings spread out to every 4 months, with high grade students training for at least 6 months, before they are able to grade. Gradings cost roughly £25.
Are there any other events?
Yes! We run SAMA camps/courses throughout the year for the kids to take part in, recent courses have been held at Easter, during the Summer and also at Halloween. Here the kids are able to practice their Katas and weapons training, take part in competitions and win prizes.
